Match preview
Borussia Dortmund are eyeing up a spot back in the Champions League places when they head to the MEWA Arena to meet with a Mainz side down in 11th after a draw on their returning Bundesliga game.
Dortmund played out a 4-3 thriller with Augsburg in the last outing, as Jude Bellingham put on another masterclass with a sensational opening goal. Nico Schlotterbeck, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Giovanni Reyna all scored a goal each that day too.
It does now put Dortmund one point behind RB Leipzig in fifth after they drew with Bayern Munich in first. On the other hand, the Black and Yellow remain two points adrift of Union Berlin, Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg in the top three with 30 points each.
Mainz managed to draw 1-1 with Stuttgart last time out, as Serhou Guirassy scored the game’s opening goal before Mainz equalised with a penalty from Marcus Ingvarsten.
Nevertheless, the club are down in 12th on 20 points with just five wins on the board. At the same time, however, should Mainz win here, they will be within five points of sixth-placed Dortmund.
