Match preview
Mainz and Bochum are both in the bottom half of the table ahead of a meeting at the MEWA Arena on Saturday afternoon with the two sides aiming to collect all three points to finally get their seasons back on track.
Although it’s been far from an impressive season for Bochum, they do head into this one off the back of putting Hertha Berlin to the side and finally giving fans a bit of hope in terms of their relegation scrap.
Keven Schlotterbeck scored that day once more, as Philipp Hofmann scored another brace. It has pushed Bochum above Hertha in the bottom three and into the relegation play-offs and not the automatic drop zone.
As for Mainz, they lost 2-1 to Borussia Dortmund last time out and were only denied a point against the Black and Yellow because of Gio Reyna’s 93rd-minute winner.
Mainz are now in 12th in the table and sit four points above Bochum in the bottom three. The club also managed to get a draw against Stuttgart last weekend after Marcus Ingvasrtsen scored once more from the penalty spot
