After their worst start to a season in the Premier League since winning the title back in 2020, Liverpool will be aiming to jump right back in the win column when they meet with Ajax in Amsterdam as the Eredivisie champions sit top of their domestic league.
Despite losing Erik ten Hag and some valuable players before the start of the season, things are still going very well for Ajax on the domestic front. After hammering Excelsior 7-1 and then Waalwijk 4-1 since the 4-2 loss to Napoli in Europe, Ajax come into this game off the back of scoring 11 goals and letting in two, while also winning both games with ease. What’s more, this keeps them top of the table in the Eredivisie with nine games won from 11 games and just one draw and one loss. They’ve also netted an extraordinary 38 times from these games, letting in just 10.
Things are very different for Liverpool in the league, however, as they lost yet again over the weekend to Nottingham Forest in a 1-0 loss. It means just four wins across the season so far and three defeats too. At the same time, despite scoring 22 goals, they did net nine of those in one game as they smashed Bournemouth 9-0 back in August.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are still heading into the knockout rounds if they can pick up just a point here, as they only have that 4-0 demolition by Napoli to deal with in terms of losses in the Champions League so far. The Reds also beat Ajax 2-1 at Anfield last time out between the two, as Mohamed Salah and Joel Matip scored in a 2-1 win.
