Bayern Munich have won 30 of their last 36 Champions League home games, scoring 108 goals in these matches. RB Salzburg have only won two of nine trips to Germany, beating Dortmund and RB Leipzig, both in 2018.

Bayern Munich to win and over 3.5 goals is 21/20.

Bayern Munich to win and both teams to score is 7/5.

Robert Lewandowski has scored 37 goals in his last 31 Champions League appearances. He is 7/4 to break the deadlock, 3/10 to score anytime and 11/10 to score two or more.

Match preview

Not many predicted that this would be the case when the draw was made but this tie is firmly in the balance after the first leg in Austria.

If anything, RB Salzburg should be making the 80 mile journey west with a healthy advantage.

After that, Brenden Aaronson, Nicolas Seiwald and Adamu all came close to increasing die Roten Bullen’s advantage, but were made to pay for their wastefulness.

That’s because, in the last minute, Benjamin Pavard’s hopeful ball was flicked on by Thomas Müller and smashed home by Kingsley Coman.

So, 1-1 it finished at Stadion Wals-Siezenheim, meaning, with the away goals rule having been abolished, it is winner takes all in Munich.

Obviously, Bayern Munich are overwhelming favourites to win this tie, having lifted six European Cups to date, most recently in 2020.

The German giants have lost just one of their last ten ties at this stage of the Champions League, a 3-1 aggregate defeat to Liverpool three years ago.

In contrast, RB Salzburg are competing at this stage of the Champions League for the very first time.

In their fourth group stage appearance, and third in a row, they finally secured a top two finish, progressing courtesy of a matchday six victory over Sevilla.

But, having failed to win the first leg, Matthias Jaissle’s side will need to pull off an almighty upset to reach the quarter-finals now.

These two clubs have one key characteristic in common; complete dominance over the respective Bundesligas.

Salzburg are very much on course to win a a ninth successive Austrian title; they’re 18 points clear after Saturday’s 4-0 demolition of Rheindorf Altach.

Over in Germany, Bayern are nine points above second-placed Dortmund, despite only drawing with Leverkusen at the weekend, so that’ll be their tenth consecutive triumph.

Back in Europe, will Julian Nagelsmann’s side simply be too strong at Allianz Arena?

Bayern Munich team news

Julian Nagelsmann tried a rather quirky 3-2-3-2 formation in the first leg, featuring Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry as wing-backs.

Whether he goes with such an offensive, laissez-faire formation again is doubtful but, what is known, Bayern are without several key players.

Manuel Neuer is missing after knee surgery, so Sven Ulreich will continue to deputise in goal.

Out-field, Alphonso Davies and Leon Goretzka remain out while Corentin Tolisso has suffered an injury since the first leg.

This means they’re short of midfield options, meaning Joshua Kimmich could be partnered by Jamal Musiala; Marcel Sabitzer is the alternative.

The good news is that Lucas Hernández will return at left-back after missing Saturday’s draw with Leverkusen suspended.

Dayot Upamecano hasn’t been in great form but, with Hernández moving over to the left, he’ll partner Niklas Süle.

Further forward, Robert Lewandowski will be looking to add to his 82 Champions League goals.

He’ll be supported by Thomas Müller with two of Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sané and Kingsley Coman out-wide.

RB Salzburg team news

Matthias Jaissle makes the trip without centre-back Jérôme Onguéné while Oumar Solet is a doubt.

Up front, with Sékou Koïta and Noah Okafor, who hobbled off in the first leg, are both highly-likely to miss this one.

Nevertheless, Chukwubuike Adamu and Karim Adeyemi with Brenden Aaronson in behind form a potent trio.

Also, Benjamin Šeško is back after a recent spell on the sidelines, scoring in Saturday’s league victory.

Salzburg always play in a 4-3-1-2 shape and, despite being big underdogs, will be confident of cause a massive shock.
