Match Preview & Prediction

Inter Milan comes into the opening week of Champions League group stage play in Group C needing to get on the front foot if they are to have any chance of reaching the knockout stages when they welcome German juggernaut Bayern Munich to the San Siro tomorrow.

Both sides are made to also contend with Xavi’s rejuvenated Barcelona, making tomorrow’s fixture a vital potential three-point haul, but for Inter, Simone Inzaghi’s I Nerazzurri are hoping to bounce back after a heartbreaking 3-2 loss against bitter rivals AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina.

Inter are already off the pace in the Serie A title race with a four-point gap already separating them from table-topping Atalanta Bergamo and will welcome Bayern to northern Italy likely without the services of Belgian international star Romelu Lukaku who may not pass fit for service due to injury, but club top-goalscorer Lautaro Martínez is available with Inter a relatively clean bill of health despite Lukaku’s possible absence.

They will have to be at their very best if they are to take anything off Bayern tomorrow, however, but the Bavarian football machine has struggled in certain ways in their own right in the young Bundesliga campaign after drawing their last two matches on the bounce and surrendering top spot to both SC Freiburg and rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Julian Nagelsmann’s troops started the season like a house on fire despite Robert Lewandowski’s departure to Barcelona this summer after Sadio Mané fit in seamlessly at the Allianz Arena, but were held to just a goal in each of their last two outings in a pair of 1-1 draw’s against Borussia Mönchengladbach as well as Union Berlin.

Despite the recent issues in front of goal, few clubs on the planet create more chances than Bayern regardless of who they line up against, and though they’re away from Bavaria tomorrow, they are still viewed as match favorites and have a clean bill of health for Nagelsmann to choose his best-possible match day XI for the occasion.
