Match preview

To say these two clubs made contrasting starts to their respective Champions League campaigns would be a contender for understatement of the decade.

Last week, Rangers were demolished 4-0 at Johan Cruyff Arena by Ajax, finding themselves three down in the first half and, in truth, it could’ve been far worse.

Having ousted both Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and PSV Eindhoven in August, the Gers have qualified for the group stages after a 12 year exile.

But, having got all the way to last season’s Europa League Final, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team came into it with lofty expectations.

If the Light Blues are going to avoid finishing bottom of this uber-competitive section, they’ll surely be relient on their home form.

Meanwhile, later last Wednesday, Napoli demolished Liverpool 4-1, and it could’ve been so much more, not least because Victor Osimhen saw a penalty saved.

Gli Azzurri are yet to reach the quarter-finals of this competition, failing in nine attempts, but Luciano Spalletti’s team are hopeful of making history.

On Saturday, Napoli moved top of Serie A by beating Spezia 1-0; Giacomo Raspadori with the last-gasp winner.

Rangers meanwhile were not in action; their trip to Pittodrie was postponed following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Another knockout on affect of that has seen this game delayed by 24 hours, so will it be worth the wait for the Ibrox faithful?
