Match preview

One of the more high-profile fixtures of the upcoming Championship gameweek is set to play out at Ewood Park on Saturday, March 4th.

The matchup in question will see a resurgent Blackburn Rovers act as hosts, in a meeting with promotion-hopefuls Sheffield United.

Beginning with the former, Blackburn, to their credit, have recovered from a dismal stretch of form in altogether impressive fashion of late.

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s troops, of course, have spent much of the campaign to date battling it out in the thick of the promotion playoff battle.

In fact, alarm bells were set firmly ringing at Ewood Park, owing to a spell of just one win from eight.

After tightening things up at the back, though, recent weeks have seen Tomasson and co. begin to bear the fruits of their labour.

Remarkably, Blackburn, all told, are now ten without defeat across all competitions, a run which includes wins in each of their last four.

After most recently putting Queens Park Rangers to the sword on the league front last weekend, they followed up by booking a spot in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup in midweek, at the expense of top-flight Leicester City.

Safe to say, then, that upcoming opponents Sheffield United will have their work cut out for them this weekend.

The Blades, for their part, have endured an altogether more hit-and-miss time of things of late.

In fact, heading into the most recent round of fixtures in England’s 2nd tier, Paul Heckingbottom’s men had slipped to successive defeats, at the hands of Middlesbrough and Millwall.

And yet, like Blackburn, United have since showcased stellar resilience, in getting things firmly back on track.

First, last weekend, a solitary own goal on the part of Ryan Porteous proved enough to put Watford to the sword at Bramall Lane, reestablishing the club’s seven-point buffer to the promotion-chasing pack.

And the Blades, in turn, followed up by springing an FA Cup shock of their own, sending Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur packing from the competition courtesy of a hard-fought 1-0 triumph.

Saturday’s Ewood Park showdown, all of a sudden, has therefore become an extremely difficult one to call.

We at 101, though, are backing an eventual sharing of the spoils come the full-time whistle between Blackburn and Sheffield United.
