A Blackburn Rovers outfit desperate for a return to winning ways will act as hosts, in a Championship meeting with Swansea City on Saturday, February 18th.
Blackburn, for their part, have proven one of the stories of the campaign to date in England’s 2nd tier.
Across much of the opening half of the term, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s troop’s found themselves defying expectations, in taking a place front and centre in the promotion playoff picture.
This came owing to a remarkable stretch of not a single draw across the club’s opening 27 fixtures.
In bizarre circumstances, Tomasson and co. have emerged with a share of spoils from each of their last four outings, the most recent of which came courtesy of a last-gasp Ben Brereton Diaz equaliser at The Hawthorns in midweek.
All told, stretching back to late December, this means that Blackburn have emerged triumphant in just one of their last eight attempts.
With Saturday’s hosts having now slipped completely out of the top-six, a return to winning ways would, for obvious reasons, come as a welcome relief to all at Ewood Park.
Such a result, though, may well prove a tricky one to come by, up against an altogether unpredictable Swansea City side.
The Welsh giants, of course, also spent much of the term to date battling it out amongst the playoff picture.
A complete inability to string a prolonged stretch of positive results together, however, has culminated in Russell Martin’s men tumbling into the bottom half of the table.
A hugely impressive downing of Sunderland this time last month saw hope sparked of something of a resurgence at the Liberty Stadium, only to be followed in predictable fashion by a four-game winless streak across all competitions.
Last time out, to their credit, the Swans did get back on track, courtesy of a hard-fought win over relegation-battling Blackpool.
But their general inconsistencies mean that it is difficult to back Saturday’s visitors to Ewood Park for a 2nd victory on the bounce.
Instead, Blackburn should be considered as narrow favourites, albeit with an eventual sharing of the spoils, in truth, looking the safest bet.
