Match preview

Two sides in the midst of vastly contrasting spells of recent form are primed to lock horns in a Championship clash at Ashton Gate on Wednesday, October 12th.

In one of two rearranged fixtures in England’s 2nd tier, struggling Bristol City will play host to a Preston North End outfit on the up.

Let’s first take a look at the recent results of the former.

Bristol, on the back of what proved an impressive opening to the campaign, have seen their form fall firmly off a cliff of late.

Their return to action this past weekend saw Nigel Pearson’s troops made short work of by Birmingham City, with Arsenal loanee Auston Trusty on target to the tune of a brace.

Bristol, in turn, have slipped to a lowly 18th spot in the Championship table, just four points clear of the drop zone.

To say that the Robins’ upcoming opponents have enjoyed a better go of things of late, though, would be putting it lightly.

Amid a stretch of just one defeat in five, Preston’s endeavours post-international break have proven of a particularly head-turning nature.

After first putting West Brom to the sword by a solitary goal, the Lilywhites made the daunting trip to Carrow Road to take on promotion-chasing Norwich City this past weekend.

And a brace on the part of Emil Riis Jakobsen, followed by a late Troy Parrott strike, ensured that it was the visitors who ultimately emerged on the right side of a five-goal thriller.

Another win on Wednesday night, in turn, would see Preston climb into the thick of the promotion playoff battle.

And we at 101 are backing Ryan Lowe’s men to manage precisely that at Ashton Gate.
