Recommended Bets

Burnley looked better than the 1-0 scoreline suggested last Friday with 16 shots and seven on target. That’s why we are backing them to win more convincingly this time.

Again we can only see one winner here with the Clarets looking strong on under new management as they look to return to the Premier League straight away.

Match Preview

Burnley got off to a promising start under new manager Vincent Kompany last Friday with a 1-0 win over last year’s playoff finalists Huddersfield Town. The Clarets completely dominated the game and wouldn’t have been flattered by a three or four nil scoreline in the end.

Despite several high-profile departures so far this summer to Premier League clubs, Burnley have added to their squad which is already good on paper for the second division. The most exciting addition could be Scott Twine who was the stand-out player for MK Dons last season and looks to be a snip at £3 million. Kompany’s side are priced at just 2/1 to gain promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

They face another playoff side from last year in the form of Luton Town, who have defied expectations since their promotion to the Championship back in 2018/19, climbing the table incrementally each season. However, Nathan Jones will be a little disappointed his side didn’t manage to take all three points on the opening weekend, with last season’s strugglers Birmingham City holding them to a bore draw.

Despite a sixth-place finish, the Hatters are relatively long odds to go up this season, with bookies pricing them at 8/1 to be in the Premier League this time next year. As usual, they have stuck to their tried and tested transfer market strategy of spending little money, but have added valuable Championship experience in the form of Luke Freeman from Sheffield United and Cauley Woodrow from relegated Barnsley. Time will tell whether they can go one step further than last season, but Jones and co certainly won’t be worried about a relegation battle.
