Match preview

Two sides eyeing a return to winning ways are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday, February 18th.

The matchup in question will see Huddersfield Town act as hosts, in a meeting with Birmingham City.

First, let’s take a look at the recent endeavours of the former.

Huddersfield, of course, currently find themselves in the thick of the battle against relegation from England’s 2nd tier.

The last week, meanwhile, has proven of particular concern, with a damaging defeat at the hands of relegation rivals Wigan Athletic having been followed in midweek by a three-goal drubbing at Stoke.

Such woes mean that incoming boss Neil Warnock has an altogether unenviable task on his hands, in guiding Huddersfield to safety from their current spot in 23rd.

Upcoming opponents Birmingham, though, will have zero sympathy in mind, as they go about securing a return to winning ways of their own at John Smith’s Stadium.

The Blues, for their part, headed into the midweek round of action in the Championship brimming with confidence, fresh off a pair of back-to-back victories over Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion.

John Eustace’s men, however, were subsequently brought crashing back down to earth.

Welcoming relegation candidates Cardiff City to St. Andrew’s, Birmingham were put to the sword in hugely disappointing fashion, by two goals to nil.

Their push towards mid-table, in turn, was brought to a swift halt, with the Blues remaining in 18th, eight points clear of the bottom three.

This sudden dip on Birmingham’s part, coupled with the arrival of the experienced Neil Warnock on the bench at Huddersfield, means that Saturday’s impending clash between the two sides represents an altogether tough one to call.

It is actually the latter who boast narrow favourite status with the bookmakers, but backing an eventual stalemate may in fact prove the best bet, based on odds and stats alike.
