Match preview

Two of the Championship’s top four sides are set to lock horns at Kenilworth Road on Saturday, February 18th.

The matchup in question will see Luton Town act as hosts, in a meeting with table-topping Burnley.

Beginning with the former, Luton, on the back of a scintillating stretch of form heading into February, have found results altogether more difficult to come by over the last couple of weeks.

First, the Hatters were sent packing from the FA Cup in embarrassing fashion, owing to a three-goal drubbing at the hands of League Two strugglers Grimsby Town.

Then, last time out, Rob Edwards’ troops surrendered a late advantage, en route to a 2nd successive 1-1 draw, on this occasion with Preston.

Luton nevertheless remain in 4th spot in the Championship table, but in the knowledge that an eventual defeat on Saturday could see them drop as far as 6th.

Avoiding such a loss, however, will prove easier said than done.

This comes with the Hatters’ upcoming opponents, of course, having stood as the standout side in England’s 2nd tier across the season to date.

Burnley, as alluded to above, remain in possession of table-topping status in the Championship at present.

This comes with Vincent Kompany’s troops having been condemned to defeat in just two of their 31 fixtures to date.

As recently as this past Tuesday, the Clarets showcased their relentlessness once more, in avoiding what would have come as a first fruitless league outing since all the way back in early November.

A meeting with Watford at Turf Moor looked as though it was set to play out into a shock victory for the visitors, owing to Joao Pedro’s first-half opener.

With a full 95 minutes on the clock, though, substitute Michael Obafemi struck a decisive equaliser, to ensure that Burnley’s ten-game win streak did not come to an end by way of defeat.

Not only that, but Sheffield United’s ensuing loss at the hands of Middlesbrough means that Kompany’s side actually extended their advantage at the summit, to a hefty eight points.

And we at 101 are backing Burnley to do their part towards opening this gap ever further on Saturday, courtesy of a swift return to winning ways at Kenilworth Road.
