Preston are enjoying an unbeaten start to the season, drawing three and winning one of their four matches so far this campaign. However, a lack of goals will be a concern to manager Ryan Lowe, with all three of the draws ending 0-0 and the victory over Luton last weekend coming courtesy of a single goal.
It’s not as if his side isn’t creating chances though with their midweek match against Rotherham saw them have 21 shots, hitting the target five times. But creating chances and taking them is a different matter altogether. They will be hoping that new attacking signings Ben Woodburn, who signed on a free from Liverpool and Troy Parrott (on loan from Spurs) will step up to the mark in the coming weeks and get the goals they need to convert the draws into wins.
They take on the Hornets who will also be happy with their unbeaten start to the season, winning two and drawing two so far. However, the cause for concern is losing their prized assets with Emmanuel Dennis departing for Nottingham Forest last week and Joao Pedro being the subject of very strong interest from oil-rich Newcastle United.
But the window is still open for them to bring in replacements and they have done just that in the form of striker Keinan Davis, who joined on loan from Aston Villa shortly after Dennis departed. With the fee for Pedro rumoured to be around the £30 million mark, plus the £20 million they got for Dennis, it would be no surprise if Watford splashed the cash in the next couple of weeks.
