Match preview

Two sides fresh off altogether contrasting spells of recent form are set to face off in a Championship showdown at Loftus Road on Sunday, December 11th.

The clash in question will see struggling Queens Park Rangers act as hosts, in a meeting with table-topping Burnley.

First, let’s delve into the latest endeavours of the former.

After at one point establishing themselves in the thick of the battle for an automatic promotion berth, QPR, heading into the World Cup break, had fallen off the pace in England’s 2nd tier in frankly alarming fashion.

The most recent of these came as their third on the trot, as a Viktor Gyokeres’ brace condemned the Hoops to the wrong side of a 2-0 scoreline at Coventry City.

Uncertainty, in turn, has since only continued to mount at Loftus Road, after head coach Michael Beale opted to call time on his stint in west London to take up the managerial post at Scottish giants Rangers late last month.

QPR could well therefore find themselves ousted from the promotion playoff spots come the close of play in the Championship this weekend.

And no doubt confident in their chances of condemning Saturday’s hosts to precisely that at Loftus Road will be a Burnley outfit continuing to prove themselves as frontrunners to clinch the title in England’s 2nd tier this season.

Vincent Kompany’s troops, of course, are sitting pretty atop the table, as we approach the halfway point of the term.

This comes owing to a head-turning haul of 40 goals scored, compared to just 23 against.

After struggling to convert stalemate situations into wins over the early months of the campaign, Burnley headed into the international break in red-hot form, fresh off six wins from seven across all competitions.

The latest of these came just shy of a month ago, when the Clarets made short work of fellow promotion candidates Blackburn to the tune of a 3-0 final scoreline.

Ashley Barnes proved the star of the show on the day, finally breaking his Championship duck for the season en route to a brace.

And we at 101 view a similar outcome as altogether likely this weekend, too, backing hosts Burnley to ultimately emerge on the right side of a comfortably one-sided scoreline at Loftus Road.
