Both sides have already shown their defensive frailties this season, that’s why we are backing the hosts and for the match to have a few goals.
Considering Rotherham are favourites by some distance for this match, this bet has pretty good odds.
Match Preview
Rotherham earned a point on the opening day of the season against Swansea which they will view as a good result on reflection. They were due to play Coventry last weekend but the fixture got postponed in bizarre circumstances, due to the playing surface at the Coventry Building Society Arena deemed not up to scratch. Whether having no game this early on will benefit or hinder The Millers remains to be seen.
This is a game they will be desperate to win against a side widely tipped to struggle much like last season. Rotherham desperately needs to shake off their ‘yoyo club’ tag after bouncing between League One and the Championship over the last few years and getting their first win of the season against Reading will be a big first step to survival this season. The hosts are strong favourites with bookies pricing them at 6/5 to get the win.
Reading enjoyed a fine victory away to Cardiff City last time out but did suffer a 1-0 defeat to Blackpool on the opening weekend, making for a mixed start to the season. Despite struggling last year and only avoiding relegation thanks to Derby’s huge points deduction, Reading do have cause to be more optimistic about the season ahead, with a new manager in Paul Ince at the helm.
They do boast Championship quality in their squad as well, with Paul’s son Tom (now a veteran at this level) in their ranks as well as Shane Long and Jeff Hendrick who were both Premier League regulars not so long ago. Finding consistency is a must if they are to avoid a repeat of last season and making it two wins in a row here would be a start. However, they do enter this clash as outsiders by some distance at odds of 23/10.
