Match preview

A West Bromwich Albion outfit quickly surging towards the promotion picture will act as hosts in a Championship fixture at The Hawthorns on Monday, January 2nd.

The matchup in question will see the Baggies go head to head with Reading.

West Brom, of course, have long established themselves as one of the English 2nd tier’s most in-form sides.

After beginning the campaign in dismal fashion en route to a long-standing spot in the bottom three, the last couple of months have seen Carlos Corberan lead his troops to a head-turning seven wins from eight.

The Baggies, in turn, have climbed into the top half of the Championship table.

Not only that, but, should results elsewhere go in their favour, another victory for Corberan and co. on Monday could prove enough to guide them into the top-six, a situation which looked frankly unfathomable just weeks ago.

Hopeful of throwing a spanner in such plans, though, will be a Reading outfit who have too enjoyed a timely turnaround of late.

The Royals, at one point in the term, found themselves defying the odds in battling it out amongst the automatic promotion candidates.

An ensuing stretch of just one win from nine quickly put an end to such dreams, but, since the Championship’s return on the back of the World Cup break, Paul Ince’s side have clawed their way back to form.

All told, three wins from their last five mean that Reading sit both a place and a point clear of their upcoming hosts in the table.

The Royals, as a result, may well fancy their chances of causing an upset at The Hawthorns on Monday.

We at 101, however, view as much as altogether unlikely, instead backing West Brom to make it eight wins from nine come the full-time whistle later today.
