Match preview

Two sides in the midst of altogether contrasting spells of form are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at the DW Stadium this Tuesday, March 14th.

The matchup in question will see Wigan Athletic act as hosts, in a meeting with Coventry City.

Beginning with the former, Wigan, of course, currently find themselves in the thick of the battle against the drop.

The Latics sit dead bottom of the table in England’s 2nd tier, a full six points from safety as things stand.

All told, dating back to the middle of February, Wigan have pieced together just three points from their last six fixtures.

This includes defeats in three of the club’s last four, most recently by way of a three-goal drubbing at the hands of table-topping Burnley over the weekend.

Safe to say, then, that upcoming opponents Coventry City will likely fancy their chances of adding ever further to the woes of Shaun Maloney’s troops later today.

This comes with the Sky Blues, for their part, have enjoyed an altogether more productive time of things of late.

Coventry currently find themselves in the thick of a seven-game unbeaten run, which includes a quartet of wins, over all of Millwall, Sunderland, Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town.

Star hitman Viktor Gyokeres, meanwhile, has continued to play a central role in such success, now sitting on a none-too-shabby 17 goals for the season, good enough for 2nd in the Championship’s top scorer charts.

Mark Robins’ men, in turn, have soared back into contention for a promotion playoff berth, albeit with a 1-1 stalemate with Hull City at the weekend meaning they remain four points off the top-six pace.

A return to winning ways on Tuesday night, though, could go some way towards closing this gap.

And we at 101 are backing Coventry to ultimately clinch precisely that, at the expense of a Wigan side looking ever more likely to be condemned to a swift return to the third tier of English football.
