Match preview

Braga reached the quarter-finals of this competition just last season, but are now in danger of missing out on the knockout stages.

Last Thursday, the Archbishops relinquished second spot in Group D, beaten 1-0 by Union Berlin at Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

This means Artur Jorge have seven points, two less than Union, and their fate is now out of their own hands.

Braga must win here, and hope Berlin don’t win away to run-away group winners Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

Given that Braga have won six of their last eight European home games, they’ll be confident of that, but will be less hopeful of a favour from Belgium.

As for Malmö, they were competing in the Champions League just 12 months ago, but this campaign has been a complete disaster.

The 1979 European Cup Finalists have never ended a UEFA group stage with zero points, looking to avoid that embarrassment here.

Domestically, Åge Hareide’s team are sixth in the Allsvenskan, with only one game to go so, unless they retain the Svenska Cupen in May, this’ll be their last European game for a little while.

A home victory seems likely at Estádio Municipal de Braga, but will it be enough for the home side?
