Match Preview

Manchester United are one of five teams still yet to lose a game in the Europa League this season and can take a step towards qualification for the knockout stages with a win over Rangers.

The Red Devils’ three draws and three wins sees them sitting on the cusp of the automatic places, with 12 points.

And with opponents Rangers and Premier League rivals Tottenham breathing down their neck, Ruben Amorim must get his players over the line against the Scots.

It has not been plain sailing for the home side in any competition this term, but they remain a favourite to lift the Europa League this year.

After beating Viktoria Plzen last time out and Bodo/Glimt before that, Amorim’s men have regained some momentum but it is never going to be an easy game against Rangers.

Despite their poor league form in Scotland this season, the Glasgow giants are capable of matching anyone on their day and have already drawn to Spurs.

If they bring the energy to Old Trafford, Philippe Clement’s side have a great chance of following in the footsteps of Wolves and Brighton and picking up three points.

Team News for Manchester United v Rangers

Luke Shaw and Mason Mount are nearing a return to fitness but there is no official word on their availability.

They were not spotted in training on Wednesday but Marcus Rashford was, hinting that he could be involved despite talks of a move to Barcelona.

Clement hinted in his press conference that goalkeeper Jack Butland could be in line to start against his former club.

Prediction

Anything could happen in this match. United’s poor home form in recent weeks will give Rangers a massive incentive to have a go at Old Trafford.

But the visitors must still proceed with caution, particularly with the hosts hurting from their latest defeat.

A win for United will almost guarantee them a place in the next round and the crowd in Manchester will provide their unwavering support for the players as they always do.

Rangers are fresh off a 5-0 win in the Scottish Cup and Clement will be relying on momentum to help take the fight to the Red Devils.

Expect goals for both sides, but United may just edge it. Manchester United 3-2 Rangers.
