It’s a winner takes all battle in the Nations League League A Group 3 encounter between Hungary and Italy with the Hungarians sitting top of the table and two points adrift of the European champions in the final game of the Nations League group stages.
After Italy’s victory over England in Milan, they beat their Euro 2020 final opponents for the second time in 14 months and guaranteed a spot in the Nations League League A for next season and a chance to now make it into the knockout rounds and finish in first place.
Giacomo Raspadori was the difference for Italy in the second half against England with his excellent finish from just outside the area being the game’s only goal – this was Italy’s first win in the Nations League since previously beating Hungary in their last encounter. In fact, despite registering just two wins compared to the three of Hungary, the Italians are the only side to beat the group leaders back in June. Nicolo Barella and Lorenzo Pellegrini scored for Italy that day, as an own goal from Gianluca Mancini pulled one back for Hungary.
Hungary got another famous result last time out by beating Germany at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig. Adam Szalai was the difference in that one, and it now means Marco Rossi has guided his side to a stunning 4-0 win over England and another 1-0 victory over the Three Lions, as well as a draw with Germany and now a victory over them too.
