Match preview

The champions of Europe and Spain kick off their new league season Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneo.

Last season, los Blancos won three of the four competitions they entered, picking up the Supercopa de España, the La Liga title and a 14th Champions League crown.

This is just the third time, after 1957 and 2017, Real have won the European Cup, the league title and another trophy all in the same season.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side began their new campaign on Wednesday night, picking up yet more silverware.

They beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup at Helsinki Olympic Stadium.

David Alaba broke the deadlock from close-range on the verge of half time, before Karim Benzema secured the win, becoming Real’s second-highest goalscorer of all time.

Hosts Almería meantime are back in the big time after seven seasons down in the second-tier.

La Unión claimed the Segunda División title last season, finishing above Valladolid on head-to-head record and just one point clear of Eibar who fell in the play-offs.

Many are tipping Rubi’s team to go straight back down again, but they have been active in the market to try and address the talent-gap.

Fernando Pacheco, Kaiky, Srđan Babić, Alejandro Pozo, Houboulang Mendes, Gui Guedes, Léo Baptistão and Martin Svidersky could all be in line for debuts here.

Nevertheless, Real Madrid should win quite comfortably in Andalucía.
