So, Diego Simeone’s side have won three successive La Liga games for the first time all season after victories over Osasuna and Celta de Vigo.

Atleti have suffered defeats against Barcelona and, more surprisingly, Levante in recent weeks but have now won six of nine in 2022.

Coming up on Tuesday night, they face Manchester United at Old Trafford in the second leg of their finely poised Champions League tie.

Before then, can the reigning Spanish champions move up to third in the table?

Cádiz meanwhile are desperate for points as they bid to stay in the division.

Last weekend, el Submarino Amarillo secured a vital victory with Rubén Alcaraz and Oussama Idrissi downing Rayo Vallecano 2-0 at Nuevo Mirandilla.

Before this, Sergio’s side had drawn three in a row and have now taken ten points from seven games since he succeeded Álvaro Cervera.

Nevertheless, Cádiz are still in the relegation zone, one behind Granada, two adrift of Mallorca and three behind Getafe.

Šime Vrsaljko hobbled off last Sunday night so joins Mario Hermoso, Stefan Savić, Koke, Daniel Wass and Matheus Cunha in the treatment room.

This leaves them short of defenders, particularly at right-back, so Yannick Ferreira Carrasco could fill in there, as more of a wing-back.

In attack, João Félix’s recent form means he’s likely to start alongside top-scorer Ángel Correa once again.

Thus, out of favour Luis Suárez and Antoine Griezmann, who’s fully fit again, will be left in reserve.

Cádiz team news

Given their important win last weekend, Sergio isn’t likely to make many changes.

Rubén Alcaraz and Fede San Emeterio will be the midfield duo in this 4-4-2 so a lot is going to be asked of them.

Tomás Alarcón could come in if a more defensive option is needed.

However, Álvaro Negredo and Choco Lozano are likely to continue up front with Lucas Pérez and Rubén Sobrino the alternatives.
