Match preview

Real Madrid may be 19-times Copa del Rey winners, but they haven’t lifted this trophy since 2014; Gareth Bale with a last-gasp winner against Barcelona back then.

Since then, los Blancos have won five Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles and 11 other major trophies.

But, since that last Copa final appearance nine years ago, they’ve reached just one semi-final, dumped out at this stage by minnows Alcoyano in 2021.

They’ll certainly be seeking to avoid a repeat of that here.

On Friday night, Carlo Ancelotti’s team beat Real Valladolid 2-0, courtesy of Karim Benzema’s late brace at Estadio José Zorrilla.

This leaves Real Madrid joint-top of the table, after Barcelona’s Catalan derby draw on New Year’s Eve.

Hosts Cacereño play their football in Spain’s fourth-tier, Segunda Federación, and haven’t reached this round for a decade.

To get this far, Julio Cobos’s team have so far overcome third-tier Córdoba and then La Liga outfit Girona; Iván Fernández the match-winner in the latter.

The difficulty level goes up another notch here though, so will Real Madrid simply be too strong at Estadio Príncipe Felipe?
