Elche are unbeaten in six meetings with Cádiz, including winning their last two encounters, both 3-1. Elche did win at the Ramón de Carranza last season but, before that, had failed to win at the venue in eight attempts this century.

Under 2.5 goals is 4/6.

Under 2.5 goals and both teams to score NO is 1/1.

Cádiz to win and both teams to score NO is 13/8.

Álvaro Negredo’s only goal in six appearances against Elche came for Real Madrid Castilla 15 years ago. He is 9/2 to break the deadlock and 13/8 to change that statistic.

Match preview

These two both currently find themselves above that all-important dotted line, but will that still be the case come the end of the season?

Last weekend, el Submarino Amarillo held Sevilla to a 1-1 draw, thanks to Lucas Pérez’s equaliser at Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

Pérez had also been the hero 11 days earlier as Cádiz had stunned the world by beating Barcelona 1-0 at Camp Nou.

So, Sergio’s side have only lost three of their last 11 games, only amassing 14 points in this period though.

With their next two against Real Sociedad and Real Madrid, Cádiz really need a victory here to have some breathing space in the relegation battle.

Elche have given themselves exactly that, following a recent run of impressive results.

Los Franjiverdes held Osasuna to a 1-1 draw at Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero a week ago, courtesy of Pere Milla’s late equaliser.

Before this though, crucially, Francisco’s side had managed back-to-back victories, beating Mallorca 3-0 and then Real Betis 1-0 just three days later.

So, Elche are now up to 13th, eight points clear of danger, needing just another point or two, if that, to ensure survival.

Will Cádiz though leap away from danger with a massive victory at Estadio Ramón de Carranza?

Cádiz team news

Lucas Pérez’s recent upturn in form, scoring crucial goals against Barça and Sevilla, will see him continue to lead the line.

If Sergio is bold and goes with two up top, Álvaro Negredo could come in as his partner.

Elche team news

Pedro Bigas went off injured against Osasuna last weekend, meaning he’s a doubt for this one.

Pere Milla’s goal off the bench in that one, his eighth of the season, should see him start this week.
