Will Osasuna keep their Copa del Rey dreams alive?
Los Rojillos, to date, have featured in just one Copa final, beaten by Real Betis in 2005, but are now on the cusp of their first semi-final since then.
To get here, Jagoba Arrasate’s team overcame Fuentes, Arnedo and Gimnàstic de Tarragona in early rounds, before causing a bit of an upset last Wednesday.
They held Betis to a 2-2 draw away from home, thanks to equalisers from David García and Rubén García, coming in stoppage time and then extra time.
Osasuna prevailed in the subsequent shootout, converting all four of their spot-kicks, thereby knocking out the holders.
This though was no fluke; Osasuna are currently seventh in La Liga, having lost just two of their last nine league fixtures.
In stark contrast to their hosts, Sevilla are in a relegation battle right now, despite finishing fourth in each of the last three seasons.
Los Nervionenses enjoyed a massive victory on Saturday night, Ivan Rakitić’s late penalty downing Cádiz, a result that saw them leap out of the bottom three.
That was just a fourth league win all season for Jorge Sampaoli’s side, as many as they’ve enjoyed in this competition.
Despite their horrendous league form, Sevilla are actually yet to concede in this season’s Copa, overcoming Velarde, Juventud de Torremolinos, Linares Deportivo and Alavés.
This though will be a far tougher assignment, not least because Osasuna beat Sevilla 2-1 at home on the opening night of this season.
This tie at El Sadar is likely to go the same way.
