Mallorca actually won 2-1 at the Wanda Metropolitano in December, meaning they’ve won two of their last six meetings with Atlético. However, Atleti are looking to win seven consecutive league games for the first time since January 2021.

Under 2.5 goals is 8/13.

Both teams to score NO and under 2.5 goals is 1/1.

Atlético Madrid to win and both teams to score NO is 2/1.

João Félix has scored seven goals in his last nine appearances, his best for for the club. He is 13/2 to break the deadlock and 12/5 to score anytime.

Match preview

After a uniquely Atlético de Madrid approach to UEFA Champions League knockout game, they’re far from out of the tie.

Atleti clearly had no intention of attacking, racking up zero shots at all, with Man City scoring the night’s only goal 20 minutes from time.

With the second leg back at the Wanda Metropolitano to come on Wednesday, Diego Simeone will be hoping his masterplan bares fruit.

Back in La Liga, Atlético Madrid have found form just when they really needed it.

Last Saturday night, they beat now bottom of the table Alavés 4-1 with both João Félix and then Luis Suárez bagging braces, the latter doing so late on.

This means Atleti have now won six successive league games and have moved up to third, their highest position since 28 November.

Will their winning run continue in the Balearic Islands?

RCD Mallorca meantime are in desperate need of points if they’re to remain in La Liga.

Having lost six matches in a row, Luis García Plaza was sacked as Head Coach during the international break.

His successor Javier Aguirre didn’t have an immediate effect last Saturday as his new team were beaten 1-0 by relegation rivals Getafe.

Franco Russo was sent off on the hour mark at Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, before the hosts snatched the win eight minutes from time.

So, having now lost seven matches on the bounce, Mallorca are in the relegation zone, two points below Cádiz and safety.

Will Atlético be too strong at Son Moix?

Mallorca team news

Franco Russo’s costly red card last weekend means he is suspended.

Javier Aguirre deployed him as part of a back three last weekend so Josep Gayá could come in alongside Brian Oliván and Iddrisu Baba here.

Takefusa Kubo was surprisingly left on the bench against his former club last weekend, but will surely be key if Mallorca are to survive.

Vedat Muriqi and Fer Niño were given the nod up front, over the Japanese wonderkid.

Atlético Madrid team news

Given that this comes in between the two legs against Manchester City, expect Diego Simeone to rotate, even if only a bit.

Yannick Carrasco has had to sit out all three Champions League games so far in 2022 after his red card in Porto on matchday six.

He’ll defiantly start on Wednesday but might feature here too given that he’s fresh.

José María Giménez and Héctor Herrera are out but Daniel Wass is in contention to make just his second appearance for the club having got injured on debut.

In attack, João Félix and Antoine Griezmann are the first-choice duo but any of Luis Suárez, Matheus Cunha or Ángel Correa could be rotated in here.
