Many hoped that this game would be a title showdown but, with the clubs now 15 points apart, this certainly isn’t the case.
On Tuesday night, they welcomed Chelsea to the Bernabéu, 3-1 up from their quarter-final first leg at Stamford Bridge.
However, los Blancos looked set to endure an unprecedented Champions League collapse when Chelsea went 3-0 up on the night in the 75th minute.
But then, Luka Modrić’s outrageous outside of the boot pass found Rodrygo who volleyed home, thereby setting up extra time.
Six minutes into the additional half hour, Karim Benzema headed home his fourth of the tie and that proved to be enough for Real to sneak through.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side will now face Manchester City later this month as they remain on track for a 14th European Cup success.
Back in La Liga, los Blancos are 12 points clear at the top having beaten Getafe 2-0 last weekend.
So, Real Madrid need 13 points from the remaining 21 available to guarantee the title, looking to take another giant step towards it with victory here.
As for Sevilla, not so long ago this looked like, potentially, being their greatest season ever, but it’s all unravelled.
Los Nervionenses were knocked out the Copa del Rey by rivals Real Betis in January, before crashing out their Europa League against West Ham in March.
At the turn of the year, Sevilla were right on Real Madrid’s coattails in La Liga, but they then only won two of ten league matches, drawing seven of them.
Last Friday night, Julen Lopetegui’s side looked set for another draw when Granada made it 2-2 with just a minute to go.
However, Rafa Mir won it for los Hispalenses in the third minute of stoppage time, before Papu Gómez fired home a fourth with 99 minutes on the clock.
This win saw Sevilla move back up to third, above Atlético Madrid, but they still need wins to guarantee a top four spot.
Will the home fans be celebrating a famous night at Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán?

Papu Gómez came off the bench for his first appearance since 27 February last weekend and, having scored, he could start this one.
At the back, Diego Carlos is fit again so he’ll continue to partner Jules Koundé.
Youssef En-Nesyri could continue to lead the line despite, remarkable, having not scored a club goal since 25 September.

Casemiro scored but was also shown a yellow card against Getafe last weekend, meaning he is suspended.
Thus, Federico Valverde and, possibly Eduardo Camavinga as well, could start in midfield after Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić both put a shift in on Tuesday.
Éder Militão will return at the back having missed the second leg against Chelsea due to suspension.
This is just as well because his deputy, Nacho, hobbled off in that one, leaving David Alaba and Dani Carvajal as a makeshift pairing.
As ever Vinícius Júnior, who scored a spectacular winner when Sevilla visited the Bernabéu in December, and Karim Benzema will be the main threats.
