This could’ve been the greatest season in Sevilla’s 132 year history but, instead, it’s not going to be one to remember.
On Thursday night, los Nervionenses travelled to London for their Europa League round of 16 second leg against West Ham, having won 1-0 at home.
West Ham won 1-0 after 90 minutes, therefore forcing extra time, before winning the tie in the 112th minute.
This season’s UEFA Europa League Final will be played at Sevilla’s own stadium of Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán but the six-times winners will not be there.
Elsewhere, los Hispalenses have been knocked out the Copa del Rey by rivals Real Betis and have fallen away in the La Liga title race.
Last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano at Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas means Sevilla have drawn six of their last eight league matches.
So, despite being unbeaten since 28 November, they’re now ten points behind Real Madrid and, with just ten games to go, that lead will surely prove unassailable.
Now, Sevilla will be looking over their shoulder with Barcelona and Atlético Madrid both starting the weekend just five points behind.
Will they get back on track with a win here?
Real Sociedad meanwhile are also in the European conversation; they sit sixth, two clear of Villarreal and four points below Atleti and Barca.
Los Txuri-Urdin enjoyed a vital victory last weekend with Martín Zubimendi getting the only goal against Alavés at Anoeta.
Imanol Alguacil’s side were top of La Liga on 7 November but then won just one of their next nine matches.
La Real have though won four of their last six so are very much in a good positition to finish in a guaranteed European spot.
This is very tough to call so will there be a winner in Andalucía?

Sevilla are without numerous key players right now, namely Diego Carlos, Karim Rekik, Marcos Acuña, Fernando, Érik Lamela, Papu Gómez and Suso.
As a result, Nemanja Gudelj could continue to fill-in at centre-back, next to Jules Koundé.
Although, the Serbian international hobbled off at the London Stadium, meaning 20 year old José Ángel Carmona may have to deputise.
Youssef En-Nesyri continues to be the first-choice striker despite having not scored in any club competition since 25 September against Espanyol.
Tecatito Corona and Anthony Martial also started on Thursday but Rafa Mir and Munir El Haddadi could come in here.
Lucas Ocampos was suspended for the trip to West Ham so he’s almost certain to come into the XI here.

Similarly, it was confirmed this week that star man Mikel Oyarzabal has suffered a serious ACL injury so could be out for the rest of 2022.
This is a huge blow for La Real who’d found goal-scoring tough even before this.
So, Alexander Isak, Adnan Januzaj and Portu are going to be the front three going forward.
Elsewhere, Nacho Monreal and Ander Barrenetxea are also injured.
But, at left-back, Diego Rico is back so he can deputise for Monreal.
