Match preview
Carlisle United and Bradford City will play out arguably their biggest game of the season this Boxing Day as seventh and eighth meet at Brunton Park with only goals difference keeping the two apart from one another.
Both sides are having much better campaigns compared to last season. On the other hand, Bradford do have a game in hand over their opposition here and should they win that game and beat Carlisle in this one, the club could find themselves as high as fourth if other results go in their favour.
Bradford have not played a game since losing to Leyton Orient on December 3rd, and by losing the game 3-0, it was a stark reminder how far off the top three the club are right now. In fact, by also losing to third-placed Northampton Town before this and Salford City in the Football League Trophy in November too, they are on a three-game losing run ahead of this Boxing Day clash.
Carlisle also lost to Northampton last weekend and drew with Sutton United just prior to that game. The club’s last win came back in mid-November, as they smashed Salford City 4-1 to climb into the playoff spots.
It’s a tough game to call, given the position in the league table for both teams. The home side have, however, scored 32 times this season and only Northampton and Leyton Orient in the top three have a better record than this.
