Match preview

23rd and 19th in League Two will meet this weekend in the only Football League game set to take place this week with a week break coming up for the other League One and League Two sides as Crawley Town play hosts to Gillingham at Broadfield.

This game is a game in hand for both sides here, as Gillingham look to get out of the bottom four and narrowly behind Crawley in the league table. They cannot jump ahead of them in 19th, but Neil Harris’ men could find themselves into 21st with a win here. It is, however, doubtful they move ahead of Harrogate Town on goals difference, but will draw level with the 20th-placed side on points with a win.

Gillingham were beaten quite convincingly by Newport County in the last game, losing 2-0 to make it four losses in a row for them in League Two after defeats to Leyton Orient, Doncaster and Northampton Town as well. Harris did guide his side to a 1-0 win over Fylde in the FA Cup two around a week ago, but this was done so in a first round replay.

Crawley lost to Walsall over the weekend too, but they did previously beat Barrow, Mansfield Town and Newport before this, alongside draws with Colchester Untied and Bradford City. Crawley can also move up to 18th and above Newport with a win, but they remain too far behind 17th-placed Sutton United with the most goals conceded in League Two for those outside of the relegation zone (30).
