Match preview
Gillingham are set to play against the high-flying sixth-placed Bradford City at the Priestfield Stadium this weekend as the Gills aim to jump out of the relegation zone before Christmas in what has been one of their worst campaigns in EFL history.
Gillingham did play in midweek, as they managed to get a late winner against Dagenham & Redbridge in the FA Cup replay, thanks to a winning goal from Kakeeb Adelakun. Max Ehmer and Elkan Baggott also scored that day, as Gillingham had to fight from behind.
In the league, however, things are looking very bleak for Gillingham. The club are down in 23rd right now and will need to hope they can overturn a points deficit of five points in the coming weeks to get out of the bottom four relegation spots.
Worse yet, they have the worst goals scored record at this stage in a league season in League Two history, netting a dismal six goals in 20 games. This has seen them win only two games too, and their 14 points so far have mainly come from their eight draws.
As for Bradford, Mark Hughes is still sitting in the playoff spots with his team, despite losing to Northampton Town and Leyton Orient in recent League Two matches. On the other hand, they remain just one point adrift of fourth-placed Barrow and behind Carlisle in fifth by only goals difference
