Match preview

Salford City and Barrow will play out arguably the biggest game of the week in League Two on Boxing Day with the two clubs eyeing up a place in the playoffs this season with Barrow continuing to put on record their best League Two campaign in history.

Barrow have fought relegation in their two campaigns in the fourth tier since earning promotion in 2020, but they are now inside the playoff spots and looking like the real deal. On the other hand, the club have lost nine times in the league already, which is the most in the top half of the league so far. However, with 11 wins, only the top three have won more games.

Despite sitting up in sixth and in the playoff spots, Barrow are in a tough bout of form right now. A 3-2 loss to Bolton Wanderers means they are out of the Football League Trophy, while they were hammered 5-0 by Stevenage at the start of the month. Swindon Town also beat them last time out.

Salford won their recent EFL Trophy clash with a 1-0 victory over Port Vale to set up a quarter-finals match against Cheltenham Town in League One. Salford also beat Gillingham last weekend in League Two.

The Greater Manchester outfit are still three points behind Barrow, however, but a win in this game would be their biggest statement in the top half of the season so far.
