Match preview
Eighth and ninth will meet in League Two this weekend in what is arguably the biggest game in terms of the playoffs this season so far with Salford City welcoming Carlisle United to Greater Manchester for their third time already this season.
Carlisle have struggled on their trips to Greater Manchester this campaign, losing to Stockport County and Rochdale. They are, however, one point ahead of Salford in the league table and can move to as high as fifth in the table if results go their way, as they sit just two points adrift of Barrow in fifth. At the same time, only Northampton Town, Mansfield Town and Leyton Orient have scored more than Carlisle, while they also have an impressive record in defence with just 19 goals let in.
Since losing to Stockport in their last trip to this part of the country, Carlisle have put together another positive run of form, beating Tranmere Rovers away from home 2-0, before beating them again at home in the FA Cup 2-1. A 3-3 draw with Harrogate Town and a 0-0 draw with Walsall does, however, mean they are winless in League Two in November so far.
Salford were in action on Wednesday this week, as they lost to Peterborough United in the FA Cup first round replay. Worse yet, by losing to Rochdale and Leyton Orient before a draw with Wimbledon last weekend, it does now mean they are on a three-game winless run in the league.
