Swindon Town and Walsall will meet this Boxing Day with the Robins having a topsy-turvy December so far just as Walsall put on record arguably their best stint of form so far this campaign with a recent win in the FA Cup second round.
Walsall struggled for the first two months of the 2022/23 season, but they have since rocketed up the league and made it into the FA Cup third round against Stockport County in January.
Back in League Two, they eased past Doncaster Rovers away from home last time out, while also beating Crawley Town just prior to that result. They also managed to beat both Wycombe Wanderers and Carlisle United in the FA Cup in November, while drawing with Carlisle in a league battle too.
Michael Flynn’s men are now in 11th and with a game in hand on 10th-placed Doncaster Rovers. Walsall have only lost six times in the league as well and have let in just 17 goals all season long – this is a better record than every side above them in the table besides the top two.
As for Swindon, they remain in fourth and in a comfortable spot in the playoffs, despite winning only one game in December. That victory came last time out against Barrow in what was arguably their best result of the campaign. However, in drawing 0-0 with Wimbledon and losing 2-0 to Crawley, they can’t claim to be in better form than Walsall right now.
