Tranmere Rovers will be aiming to reignite their fight to get into the top half of the table before 2023 when they welcome Doncaster Rovers to Prenton Park this Boxing Day as five places separate the two clubs ahead of Monday.
After such a great season last time out where Tranmere almost made it into the playoffs, it’s been a very tough time for them in 2022/23. They are coming into this game slumped into 15th and although far from relegation, Micky Mellon’s men are four points below Doncaster in the race for the top half of the table.
They are also just three points behind Wimbledon in 12th, but with them having played an extra game than some of those above them, Tranmere are likely to be in the bottom half of the table before the new year.
Grimsby Town managed to beat them 2-1 last time out, but they did also manage to get a commendable draw to the promotion-chasing Northampton Town at the start of December too.
As for Doncaster, their form has been topsy-turvy in December. It started with a loss to Walsall before defeating Newport County 1-0 two weeks back. Rovers have also not been in action for 16 days when this game kicks off, due to the postponed fixture against Harrogate Town.
