Clermont Foot and Angers will meet at the Gabriel Montpied Stadium this weekend with the away side aiming to get off the foot of the table just as Clermont Foot cling on to their position in the top half of Ligue 1.
After battling relegation for practically the entire season in 2021/22, Clermont are coming into this one off the back of two wins in a row over sides above them in the table and in ninth.
The Lancers edged past fourth-placed Rennes last time out in a stunning victory that saw Johan Gastien snatch all three points in the dying seconds of the game. Grejohn Kyei also scored in the first half that day.
Just prior to this, Clermont got arguably their best result of the season when Muhammed Cham netted from the penalty spot in a 1-0 away win at Lyon. It now puts the club behind eighth-placed Lyon by only goals difference.
Angers, however, remain in complete tatters in Ligue 1. After losing to Paris Saint-Germain, the club in last place now have a gap of seven points to make up on Ajaccio in 16th.
Considering they’ve collected just eight points all season long, barring a complete turnaround, it seems as if Angers are doomed for Ligue 2 already.
