Lyon and Auxerre will kick off the Ligue 1 weekend this Friday night at the Stade Abbe Deschamps with the home side coming into this one in rotten form just as Laurent Blanc’s men returned to the win column in fantastic style.
It’s been a strange season for Lyon all campaign long. They have failed to find any sort of consistency, are onto their second manager already, but they still manage to take points off those above them yet sit ninth for another week running.
Last time out, Blanc guided his side to a win over third-placed Lens, as captain Alexandre Lacazette got on the scoresheet once more before Rayan Cherki got another goal for the season.
Lyon have now avoided a loss in their past five games, having beaten Ajaccio, drawn with Brest, defeated Troyes and edged past Lille in the French Cup on penalties just before the win over Lens last week.
As for Auxerre, they seem destined for immediate relegation. In what is their first season in Ligue 1, the club sit 19th with just three wins all season long and 47 goals let in with just 19 scored. Worse yet, they now have a gap of four to make up on Troyes in 16th.
