Match Preview
It’s 17th meeting with 18th in Ligue 1 this weekend as two sides looking to rocket up the league and finally find their feet in the new season clash at the Stade Francis Le Blé with Brest playing hosts to Strasbourg.
There’s definitely some second-season syndrome kicking in for Strasbourg so far this campaign with the club finishing on 63 points and 17 wins from the 38 games of last season. What’s more, they only finished off the Europa League spots by three points and the Champions League qualifiers by six points.
They are, however, winless in the league to this point in the season, sit in the relegation zone and have six goals and scored just four of their own. On the other hand, they have only lost two of the five games so far, with the other three coming through draws against Nantes, Reims and Nice.
As for Brest, they will still be feeling the 7-0 mauling from Montpellier over last weekend, and now that they have lost to Rennes on Wednesday 3-1, the club have now conceded 10 goals inside a week and scored just one of their own through Franck Honorat.
Despite the recent embarrassment, Brest have still won a game in contrast to Strasbourg’s winless start to 2022/23, as they managed to beat Angers 3-1 away from home. Jeremy Le Douaron bagged a brace that day inside the first half, before Achraf Dari sealed the deal with a goal in the second half.
The terrible beginning to the season from both clubs give either side a chance to win this one. Strasbourg are more desperate for a win, but if they can just find a glimpse of their form shown across last season, they may start to kick on this campaign.
