Clermont Foot have a fantastic chance to stamp down their marker on the European spots this weekend with the visit of Monaco to the Gabriel Montpied Stadium as the home side are in ninth after an unbeaten run of form.
Despite not losing a game since the first game back after the World Cup to Lille, Clermont have drawn their past two with 0-0 draws against Nantes and Lille.
However, in beating Lyon earlier in the year before a fantastic 2-1 win over Rennes, the club have proved their worth in this European battle at times. Now, they sit 10 behind Rennes in fifth and 11 behind Monaco in fourth, so a win is a must here if they are going to achieve this slightly unrealistic dream.
As for Monaco, it’s been a sensational run of form since the World Cup, as they have beaten Auxerre and Brest before a stunning 7-1 win over Ajaccio where Wissam Ben Yedder scored a hat-trick.
The club beat Auxerre once more in midweek and by the same 3-2 scoreline they won with back in late December. A 1-1 draw with Marseille has kept them in fourth, however, but just four behind Lens in third and five adrift of Marseille in second.
