Clermont Foot will be aiming to stay in the top half of the Ligue 1 table with the World Cup break around the corner as they are now into ninth after a draw with Nantes ahead of playing hosts to Montpellier down in 14th at the Gabriel Montpied Stadium.
Despite sitting ninth in the table, Clermont are only sitting so high because of other results going in their favour as the club have not won since the start of October. They managed to defeat Auxerre that day, before a draw with Monaco, a loss to Brest at home, and a recent 1-1 clash with Nantes.
Nevertheless, with five wins and five losses on the board, they are still two points ahead of 10th-placed Nice and only trailing Lyon above them in eighth by two points as well. On the other hand, with just two wins throughout October, they are heading to the World Cup break in poor form that needs to change turn around rapidly.
Montpellier have had a tough season so far. It took them a while to get a few points on the board, and their decent form shown throughout September disappeared in October with a poor winless run that has seen them lose on the bounce to Toulouse Lyon, Lens, Monaco and Rennes. The club’s last win came just before the international break, beating Strasbourg 2-1 at home.
