It’s the biggest game in Ligue 1 this weekend when Lorient welcome Monaco to the Stade du Moustoir with sixth playing hosts to fifth in the French top flight as the two eye up a spot in the Champions League in 2023.
With Paris Saint-Germain and Lens running away with the league title in a two-horse, it seems as if the Champions League spots are too good to be true for both Lorient and Monaco. On the other hand, they are just a handful of points adrift.
Monaco are currently two points clear of Lorient after a drop in form from the latter, but Regis Le Bris’ men did ease past La Chataigneraie in the French Cup round of 64 in the last game.
As for Monaco, however, Philippe Clement’s men were beaten by Rodez on penalties after leading the game 2-0 to eventually draw 2-2.
In the league, Lorient have beaten Angers and lost to Montpellier since action resumed, but Monaco have collected all three points against both Auxuerre and Brest to move into fifth.
Monaco have also scored five more goals and won one more game in Ligue 1 than the home side in this one, conceding one less goal (23) in the process too.
