After a draw each in Ligue 1′s midweek games, Lyon will welcome Strasbourg to the Groupama Stadium in France’s top flight with Laurent Blanc in the midst of a pickle with his new side just as the away team remain in the drop zone.

It’s been far from an easy run for Blanc with Lyon, who has now lost to Clermont Foot and drawn with Nantes 0-0 in his recent Ligue 1 games. It means no goals this year in the league and just two points from six.

The Ligue 1 giants did defeat Metz 2-1 at home in the French Cup round of 64, however, which now puts them in the round of 32 against Chambery in two weeks.

This poor run of form means Lyon are still in eighth for another week and also sit an alarming nine points adrift of sixth-placed Monaco and another season with no European football is currently well on the cards.

As for Strasbourg, they let a lead go twice against second-placed Lens, but despite a 2-2 draw, Juilen Stephan’s side will be pleased to some extent with a point against a side 17 positions above them.
