Match preview

Fourth-placed Marseille will be in search of a decent run of form when Ligue 1 returns this week with the club winning just two of their past six games in the French top flight ahead of playing hosts to Toulouse down in 12th.

Once again, it has been a bit of a struggle for Toulouse in Ligue 1. However, after two seasons in Ligue 2, they do now head into this one in 12th and with a healthy gap on the bottom four. Ahead of the game, the club are three points behind the top half of the table with them also three points above the bottom four as well.

Toulouse had their game with Montpellier cancelled just one week ago, and after drawing 2-2 with Istanbul Basaksehir and losing 2-1 to Galatasaray, they failed to get a win during the World Cup break. Worse yet, with them winning only one of their past five games in Ligue 1 similarly to Marseille, they haven’t tasted victory since mid-October.

Marseille’s two wins in their last six league outings came in their last game against Monaco and against Lyon, where Samuel Gigot scored the game’s only goal against their rivals. The club draw 2-2 Strasbourg and lost to Lens, Paris Saint-Germain and Ajaccio in their previous games to this winning run to knock them down from second into fourth.

Marseille also lost to Sassuolo two weeks ago in their only game during the World Cup break.
