10 places separate Monaco in fifth and 15th-placed Nantes ahead of their Ligue 1 clash this Sunday afternoon with the home side looking to establish themselves as early title contenders in what has been a topsy-turvy season for them so far in Ligue 1.
It was a tough start to the new season for Monaco, despite managing to beat Strasbourg on the opening day of the season in a 2-1 win away from home. A loss over two legs against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League qualifiers and four winless games in a row in Ligue 1 saw Monaco struggle for much of August.
They did manage to get a commendable draw away to Paris Saint-Germain in this time, which remains the only game where the Paris side have dropped points in all competitions this season. The 2016/17 champions would then go on to beat Nice 1-0 and Red Star Belgrade 1-0 in the Europa League. An impressive 2-1 victory against Lyon and another 1-0 win in Europe against Ferencvaros saw them win four in a row, before an excellent 3-0 victory against Reims last time out rocketed them into fifth.
As for Nantes, it’s been another struggle for them this season and they have not won in Ligue 1 since defeating Toulouse back at the end of August. In fact, with even the winless Strasbourg getting a point off them, Nantes only have a 2-1 win over Olympiacos to shout about in September, with Lens drawing 0-0 with them last time out.
