Off the back of the biggest win in Ligue 1 this season, Montpellier will welcome Ajaccio to the Stade de la Mosson this Wednesday evening with the travelling side still in search of their first win of the new season.
It’s been a rough ride for Ajaccio since earning promotion into the French top flight by finishing second in Ligue 2. So far, they remain winless and are bottom of the table after four games in Ligue 1, having lost three and drawn the other.
Ajaccio managed to secure that sole point against Lens on home soil, and by registering just two shots on target that day and concededing five to the opposition, the 0-0 draw was quite a fortunate one in some ways.
It does now mean a two-game losing run for the newly-promoted side, as they lost 2-1 to Rennes and then 3-1 to Lille over the weekend. What’s more, with a narrow 2-1 loss to Lyon as well, they have at least scored a goal in each of their three losses so far.
Montpellier destroyed Brest 7-0 in their last game, as they managed to register the biggest win of the season, surpassing Paris Saint-Germain’s 7-1 over Lille two weeks back. Five different goalscorers scored that day, including Wahbi Khazri who netted once more this season.
A 5-2 loss to PSG and a 2-1 defeat to Auxerre mean they’ve lost twice and one two games as well, with another victory over Troyes. Montpellier are now the favourites to win this one here, and anything but all three points would be very concerning for manager Olivier Dall’Oglio.
