10th will meet with 11th in Ligue 1 this weekend as Lyon and Montpellier set to battle with the aims of returning to winning ways as both sides have been deep in the losing column in recent weeks and plummeted down the table as a result.
Lyon’s early quest to get into the title race has taken a beating in the past few weeks with the club now failing to win a single one of their past six games. The club lost to Lorient, Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and Lens in consecutive games throughout September and early October, before they finally picked up a point in a 1-1 draw with Toulouse. A defeat to Rennes last week extended their winless run, meaning the club have now let in 12 goals in the past six games, scoring only five of their own ever since beating Angers 5-0.
Montpellier have nearly really been in the mixer for the European spots to this point in the league season, but they have still managed to score 21 goals – no side outside of the European places in Ligue 1 have netted more. On the other hand, they have still managed to concede 22 goals, meaning they sit only ahead of Auxerre in the list of most goals conceded for those outside of the relegation spots.
They too haven’t won in a number of weeks, having not tasted victory since they bagged all three points in a narrow win over Strasbourg back in mid-September. A loss to Toulouse would come after the international break, with them also losing to Monaco and Lens in the past two games. This does now mean just two victories since the end of August for Montpellier.
