Nantes will step out at the Beaujoire Stadium this weekend when they play hosts to Toulouse with the away side currently unbeaten after three games in Ligue 1 as the home outfit aims for their first victory of the new season.
It’s been a disastrous start to the 2022/23 campaign for Nantes. The elation of winning the French Cup last season has rapidly faded now following on from a winless beginning, which started with the torrid display against Paris Saint-Germain in the Trophee des Champions. The Ligue 1 winners hammered Nantes 4-0, where the losing side had just two shots on target and never once threatened the PSG goal.
Antoine Kombouaré’s side then drew with Angers 0-0 in the league, and then played hosts to Lille and saw out a 1-1 draw. Across both games, however, Nantes only saw five shots on target and would barely threaten on the attacking front in both games.
The French Cup holders were unlucky not to get a point away to Marseille too, as Ludovic Blas’ penalty was not enough following an unfortunate own goal from Nicolas Pallois.
Toulouse have been excellent so farm and following on from drawing 2-2 with Lorient and 1-1 with Nice, they sit sixth so far ahead of what is a tough run for them in Ligue 1 where they meet the champions in two weeks.
Rafael Ratao and Rhys Healey scored a goal each in a win over Troyes as well, and given how this was away from home, the club will be confident in getting the job done on the road once more.
