It’s one of the most important games of the Ligue 1 season for both Nantes and Auxerre on New Years Day with the two clubs battling down in the bottom five still in 2023 as Antoine Kombouaré looks to pick up the club’s first win since mid-October.
Nantes drew 0-0 with Troyes last time out in the league and they come into this one with a one-point gap over Brest in 17th. A loss for them here could force them down into the bottom four.
Auxerre, however, are in 18th and a win is a must if they are to get out of the relegation zone. They lost 3-2 to Monaco in the last game, as M’Baye Niang scored with the other being an own goal.
Nantes have only won two games in Ligue 1 this season and this is alarmingly the same as bottom-placed Angers. The club have a decent record of 24 goals conceded, however.
