Match preview

Lyon remain in eighth after a tough run since French football resumed at the end of December with the club losing one and winning the other in Ligue 1 as they head on the road to Nantes on Wednesday.

Lyon edged past Metz in their French Cup outing last time around, as the club managed to lead through Bradley Barcola in the second half before a rapid equaliser. An own goal won it in the end for the Ligue 1 side.

Last time out in the league, however, Laurent Blanc’s men lost at the Groupama Stadium to Clermont Foot, in what could be their worst result of the campaign in terms of their European ambitions.

On their return to competitive action, Blanc’s side eased past Brest away from home after Alexandre Lacazette, Rayan Cherkie and Maxence Caqueret all scored in the first half. Tete added a four in the second 45 to make it 4-2.

As for Nantes, they edged past Vire 2-0 away from home in the French Cup, not long after beating Auxerre 1-0 and drawing with Troyes 0-0. It leaves them in 15th, however, with relegation fears still heightened
