Marseille will be eager to collect all three points away to Nantes this Wednesday evening after dropping points for the first time since the World Cup when they met with Monaco on Saturday just as Nantes played out another winless game against Clermont Foot.
Marseille have been one of the continent’s most in-form sides since the World Cup after winning all six of their first few games after the finals in Qatar. This has seen Alexis Sanchez and co. rack up 16 goals of their own, concede just four and ease into the last 16 of the French Cup.
Last weekend, however, Sanchez’s equaliser in the second half was only enough for a point at home to Monaco and it now keeps Igor Tudor’s men two points behind second-placed Lens.
As for Nantes, their goalless draw with Clermont keeps them six behind the top half of the table and means they’ve still racked up only four wins all season long – this is the same as 18th-placed Ajaccio.
Manager, Antoine Kombouaré, has still managed to get his side into the last 16 of the cup, however, and combine this with a Europa League encounter against Juventus in February and a healthy gap on the bottom four and it’s fair to say Kombouaré’s men are still having a solid season in their own regard.
